The short version: Pixelkit has no account, no server, no analytics and no tracking. Nothing you do with it is sent to us or sold to anyone.
Pixelkit is a Chrome extension with design tools for web pages: inspecting elements, editing pages live, picking colours and fonts, extracting style guides and assets, taking screenshots and checking accessibility. This policy explains what data it handles.
What Pixelkit reads
When you open Pixelkit on a tab, it reads that page's content and styles (elements, text, colours, fonts, images and layout) so its tools can show and export them. This happens only on the tab where you open the toolbar, and only while you use it. Pixelkit does not run on pages where you haven't opened it.
What Pixelkit stores
Things you choose to save (colours, fonts, elements, assets, screenshots, style guides) and your settings are stored on your own device, in Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.local) and the extension's local storage. They never leave your computer. Uninstalling Pixelkit deletes them.
Network requests
Pixelkit makes network requests only when you use a feature that needs one:
- Google Fonts. When you pick a font in Live edit, Pixelkit downloads it from
fonts.googleapis.comandfonts.gstatic.com. Google receives the font name and the usual request information (such as your IP address), under Google's privacy policy. - Asset downloads. When you download assets (images, SVGs, videos) from a page, Pixelkit fetches those files from the website that hosts them, just as your browser already did to show the page.
- Responsive viewer. The viewer loads the page you are looking at inside frames. To let sites that block framing display there, Pixelkit removes the frame-blocking headers for frames in that one viewer tab only. The rule is deleted when you close the tab.
Pixelkit does not load or run code from the internet. All of its code ships inside the extension.
What we don't do
- We don't collect, transmit or store your personal information, browsing history or page content on any server.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- We don't sell or transfer user data to third parties, use it for anything unrelated to Pixelkit's design tools, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
Permissions
- activeTab and scripting: to open the toolbar on the tab where you click Pixelkit or press its shortcut, and read that page’s design. This access ends when you leave the page.
- fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com: to load Google Fonts in Live edit.
- Optional access to all sites: asked for only when you use a feature that needs it (downloading all of a page’s assets, previewing a site in the responsive viewer, or using the side panel on the current page), and only if you click Allow. You can remove it any time in Chrome’s extension settings.
- storage, unlimitedStorage: to keep your saved items and screenshots on your device.
- downloads: to save exports, screenshots and assets when you ask.
- clipboardWrite: to copy colours, CSS and images when you click Copy.
- sidePanel: for the Collections and Utilities side panel.
- declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess: for the responsive viewer, as described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If Pixelkit ever starts handling data differently, the extension's listing and this policy will be updated first.
